At least he wasn't busted by the AFL testers. What about the blokes who've been caught using drugs and are still playing. Which is worse?

Andrew ***** did em for years in League, (Of course they never helped his performances) ;) Ben *******was outed, Robbie O'***** hell the list goes on and on and all they have to do is produce some crocodile tears say we are sooooo sorry, and their hero status is restored by the all forgiving fans.

But I am remiss, we shouldnt mention these names on here, they do not have the right of reply, should I lock the thread

And the AFL administrators and club administrators. The plot thickens

If the AFL was serious about drugs then they'd change there policy and bring in a bit more transparency into the whole thing. 3 strikes is not a bad thing, it's jsut that the way they've done it is.

Strike 1 - Club and player notified, not made public - give them a chance of rehabilitation. Remember you give an 18-20 year old $100K+ a year and you're automatically asking for trouble.
Strike 2 - Made public - see if outing them helps or not.
Strike 3 - Suspended for 1 year, non-negotiable.
Strike 4 - banned for life from the AFL. If a year out doesn't change you, then go don't deserve to play at the elite level.

what about the six players still running around that have been caught twice but are yet to be named - what are your thoughts there?

remember, BC was never ACTUALLY caught by the AFL as a drug user. it was his admission to using drugs. even when he was famously hauled away by the WA cops for alleged drug possesion all they found were prescription drugs. he's never been caught/charged of drug use.

i've got no problem with the criteria he needs to met to play again, my problem is that this testing isn't inline with the AFL's Drugs Police and Code of Conduct.

rules for one, but not all it seems.

They want to be seen as tough on drugs, but don't want to suspend anyone. The truth is I know of quite a few current AFL players who do recreational drugs similar to Ben, but not one has tested positive once. Why would they change when they know that the chances of being tested are small & even then when they do test positive first time no-one, including their club finds out.

The system is designed not to find a drug cheat, because the AFL know there are more out there doing recreational drugs than any other professional sport in this country.

Anyone read about the new drug testing on hair (take a hair sample of about 120 strands, and about 3cm long) that you can test a players drug taking over the last 3 months. See how many players now have crew cuts???

According to yesterdays newspaper reports, that is one of the main reasons the hair test was included in the Cousins testing regime - because during his past 12 month rehab period he fronted once (or more) with a short cropped head and waxed in other areas!

Talk about cutting off your hair to spite the AFL!

Anyway, I can't see how many of us in bowls can take any moral high ground on the drugs issue.
How many of us are completely clean and can face any sort of drugs test without fear?

Understand the old saying about glass houses but we're not professionals either. For the amount of money some of them make a year I'd grow my hair to any length you want.

Won't the AFL be pissed now - Richmond drafting him and odds are 100,000 will turn up in rd 1 just to rub it to Demitriou.
