Just letting you guys and girls know that Somerton Bowling Club in South Australia is hosting a $10K Open Pairs event which will be open tot he 1st 80 teams to nominate @ $100 per player or $200 per team.
The event will be run on Friday the 17th April to Sunday 19th April 2009.
This is the week after Easter and it will hopefully manage to attract some bowlers to SA for the Adelaide Masters the weekend before, then hopefully keep some of them here for the following weekend to play in this event.
Yes the entry seems steep for some maybe, but i can tell you it has been worked on assuming $50 for the Friday Night Seafood Platter, the same night the Calcutta will take place.
The Bowls will be played on the Saturday and Sunday and will include lunch both of these days also with a BBQ to finish off the proceeding's on the Sunday arvo or evening.

It is expected that some of the country's top bowlers may make Somerton their home this weekend which has some of the best Tiftdwarf greens this state has to offer.
We believe we may have Clare Duke also interested in coming back here for this event and there is some talk she may even try and attract some of her fellow Australian Squad players to this event also.

Yes they are all Grass greens, no synthetics here.

Expected pace of greens in April should still be between 15 and 18 seconds i would suggest.

The brochure is available on www.somertonseagulls.com.au (http://www.somertonseagulls.com.au) website now.

Looks like this event got the can on Tuesday this week, also heard we may try it again in a few months with a different format and hopefully a cheaper entry price.
Some talk is around August or September now - our pre season.
Moderators feel free to remove this thread if you please.

Maybe you can update the thread with the new details when they emerge?
