View Full Version : Ignore function

Any chance of getting this function implemented on this phpbb?

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?p=143249

Rather than drive people way from the forum with all the vitriol and venom espoused by a few, users could simply ignore those people who act inappropriately by adding them to their own ignore list.

I voted "Don't Care" as for me personally the vitriol etc is not worth responding to or participating in. It's water off a ducks back for me.

I do however think that the ignore option should be available for those who wish to use it.

Have not voted but would like an answer to a question first that I could not find referenced in the link and that is, Is the function reversable?
Someone might be pissing you off and harping on something and the best thing is to simply turn them off for a week or so
when you come back they may be fine, got there stuff off there chest and be normal again.
I think it could be good but as I said needs to be reversable.
Not that I could have someone on iggy anyhow being a mod, imagine if they were posting porn or expletives and I had blinkers on

It's like a radio button/boolean function. You can add people to your list and take them off. There is more than the single function (referenced above) available. There are a few different implementation out there for phpbb

I like the idea as I've had a few people say if "so and so" isn't kicked off the site then i'm leaving. I personnally find the reasoning a little thin but if this would make them happy then its good for the site. thus if someone offends you or you cant' stand what they say put the ignore button on and say goodbye to them.

I'm looking at implementing it.

JH has an "ignore" button. There are a few who use it, but I think that the majority just do it the old fashioned way. Usually, if someone annoys one person, they also annoy a lot of others. That's when the mods step in.

When you have a couple of clowns always on your arse mate better to ignore the prats than keep on getting upset.

The 'ignore' function has been on JH for a while now, but I've never even thought to use it. It's easy enough to ignore some fool the old fashioned way without having the computer do it for you.

Anyway, as a mod, there is no point in me ignoring anybody. Added to that is the fact that mods and admin can't be ignored, so for me, it is all irrelevant.

I used it a few times on JH & you can lose the thread of a topic
especially if the`re prolific posters, which annoyed me even more.

Anyway since being on this forum,I find I can put up with any
sort of crap.
