      Season Commencement

Good luck to all bowlers across the state entering into their respective new Pennant competitions for season 2014-15. Some competitions have already commenced with both Midweek and Saturday events kicking off, with others yet to roll down a competitive bowl.

Equal good fortune to all and we hope everyone enjoys their bowls.

      Under 18 National Championships

Bowls Victoria’s Under 18 team starts its National Championships campaign this Monday 29 September at Nightcliff Bowls Club in Darwin. In the first of their sectional play rounds they will face the local Northern Territory team who will undoubtedly have a strong and vocal local contingent supporting their young chargers. Victorian Under 18 team spokesperson Doug Kneebone is confident that lessons learnt at last year’s event in Western Australia will strengthen the team’s resolve to deliver more medals (hopefully gold ones) in this year’s event in the top end. Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours will be contested in both the Boys and Girls competitions.
Jay Bye-Norris will be representing in the boy’s singles and Amelia Bruggy in the girl’s event and the girl’s fours team of Tiffany Brodie, Cody Sylvester, Elisa Rigoni and Tayla Morrison will be looking to defend their title from the previous year with Tiffany Brodie the newcomer to the team. In the boy’s fours Jayden Christie, Curtis Hanley, Ben Cotter and Joshua Corless are on the prowl and eager to turn their silver medal from last year into gold with Christie and Corless the only two remaining from their campaign in WA.
Come Monday afternoon we’ll have an idea of how this year’s campaign will shape itself after playing the Northern Territory and then with matches against New South Wales on Tuesday and Western Australia on Wednesday.
Please follow the progress of these up and coming young dynamos in this year’s event by clicking here for their results and following the reports on the BV website.

      Presenter & Assessor Training

This week Bowls Victoria ran a Presenter & Assessor Training course to train additional Presenters & Assessors to deliver coaching courses around Victoria. The two day course, took four participants through different interactive and practical activities to develop presenting skills and knowledge of how to properly assess a candidate against a set criteria.
Given the current state of coaching in Victoria, with currently only three Presenters & Assessors currently qualified to run courses, Bowls Victoria hope to run more of these Training Courses in the coming months. We’ve received a number of expressions of interest to date and these candidates will be contact and notified about courses as they become available.
If you’re interested in becoming a Presenter & Assessor to assist delivering Introductory & Club Coach accreditations, or the Selection & Competition modules, please contact Scott Nicholas (03) 9861 7111 or scottn@bowlsvic.org.au to find out how you can get involved.
