The Queanbeyan Bowling club has reaffirmed its status as oneof the ACT’s strongest clubs with a stirring victory over the highly credentialedWeston Creek yesterday with an amazing 63-56 win that nobody saw possible. The wingives Queanbeyan it’s first No.1 flag since 2007 and consigned Weston Creek toanother heartbreaking defeat. The other pennant side that played off in thefinals was the 6’s that lost their semi-final on Saturday to Weston Creek 45 to65. Well done to the boys in the 6's who fought valiantly over the year Saturday just wasn't their day.

But yesterday belonged to the men from Queanbeyan who haveas a club struggled recently but all of that was put aside to take home theglory. The side was faced with the prospect of winning three games in a row towin the flag and were missing an important cog in their army with Rob Chesherbeing unavailable as he is overseas. His replacement Sean Robertson who is aformer under 25 New Zealand rep brought similar qualities as Rob provides andhe performed excellently.

Saturday morning saw them up against Canberra City andclinically disposed of them 68 to 45 on the artificial green over at WestonCreek. Next up they faced the morning’s losers in Yass and knocked them out instraight sets with a strong 57 to 48 shot win. The team now had the confidenceneeded to take on the Creek and at 1pm the following day the whips startedcracking and the battle was on!

Weston Creek came into the match as warm favourites withsome unbelievable performances during the year coming off the back of a handyinclusion in Aussie Development Rep Andrew Howie and spurred on by the pain of last year lookeddetermined to end the drought. Their arch nemesis in Tuggeranong failed tostand in their way this time and it looked like foregone conclusion they would win.

Queanbeyan on the other hand weren’t given even a slightchance of winning but you should never doubt the fighting qualities of thisclub and if they ever get punched down they’ll stand up straight away. The gamewas played at Canberra Bowling Club and by all reports the day was a successeven though the weather wasn’t at its best. Below is the rink results of thegame and the 12 players who represented Queanbeyan. Everyone associated with the club should be so proud of the way the team stood up and let's hope the rest of the year continues on an upward curve.
