Vikings Trifecta

Tuggeranong Vikings made it a trifecta in grade one of the 2009-10 Tobin Brothers ACT Men's Pennant played at Weston Creek Bowling Club on Sunday, 2nd May.

The Vikings lead all the way to defeat home side Weston Creek Wildcats 74 shots to 53.


In grade 2 Weston Creek Blue reigned supreme with a thirteen shot win over Queanbeyan (63 shots to 50). The match seesawed throughout but Weston Creek finished strongly to secure the win.

Grade 3 saw the sentimental favourites Southern Cross Woden defeat Weston Creek Wildcats 66 shots to 51. Players and supporters were very emotional after the victory as this is the club's last year.

West Deakin Hellenic were victorious in grade 4 with a 68 shots to 57 win over Tuggeranong Vikings. This match was a close battle all day but West Deakin proved their two previous victories over Tuggeranong during the regular season were no flukes and powered away to a 11 shot victory.

Grade 5 was the closest of the finals played all day with Weston Creek Wildcats securing a one shot victory over Tuggeranong Vikings 61 shots to 60.

Tuggeranong looked to have the match in the bag leading by 4 shots going into the last 2 ends but the Wildcats were able to secure a 2 and a 3 on the last two ends to secure victory.

Canberra Bowling club prevailed in the No. 6 pennant defeating Weston Creek Blue by 13 shots.

The match was close, but the experience of the Canberra players shone through for the Forrest club to take their first pennant in for more than 15 years.

Weston Creek Wildcats were minor premiers in grade 7 and did not disappoint a huge band of supporters by winning the grade 7 pennant 62 shots to 52 over Yowani. The Wildcats lead most of the way to secure victory.
